Can anything beat a Klondike Choco Taco? Ben and Jerry's has launched an ad for the "Brrr-ito" ice cream item that will be sold beginning on April 20. The special "420" munchies is to celebrate the red letter day of marijuana legalization.
The Brrr-ito features two scoops of vanilla ice cream topped with chocolate cookie crumbs and chocolate fudge. It is all rolled up in a wrap consisting of a soft waffle cone, according to Mashable.
To advertise the special menu item, Ben and Jerry's released an ad that was inspired by the 1984 Super Bowl commercial ad featuring the new Macintosh computer.
The commercial was a parody of George Orwell's novel "1984," which features Big Brother and the Thought Police. A young blonde athlete throws a Thor-like hammer at the image of a Big Brother figure talking propaganda.
There is a key difference in the Ben and Jerry's version. Rather than carrying a huge hammer, the young lady is toting the new ice cream-filled burrito. Also, rather than promising that 1984 "won't be" like 1984, it guarantees that 4.20 "will be exactly" like 4.20.
The ad ends with the message to "have one rolled" on April 20. Truth be told, the double entendre is obvious yet effective.
A key benefit of the Brrr-ito is that both stoners and non-stoners can enjoy it. Also, both supporters and opponents of marijuana legalization can agree that ice cream, cookies, and fudge are some of the best sweet treats on the planet.
A possible criticism of the Brrr-ito is that the one open-end differs from an actual burrito. Still, biting into a true ice cream burrito would result in instant tooth pain, according to Slate. So grab a spoon.
