Users of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 Wi-Fi version will now be able to update their tablet devices to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop using OTA or the Samsung Kies support software.
Samsung has been not on par with regards to their speed in rolling out the much needed updates for newer Android versions compared to other smartphone manufacturers. Their flagship smartphones have already received the update, but Samsung tablet owners are still waiting for a lick on the Lollipop.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 Wi-Fi version is just one of the company's latest devices to finally be upgraded from the outdated KitKat version to the newer Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, according to Tech Times.
Similar to other devices from Samsung, the visual updates from Android Lollipop does not really show because of the South Korean company's own TouchWiz version of the ROM. More users recognize Android 5.0 because of Google's redesigned Material Design UI.
However, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 Wi-Fi version will still have noticeable additions such as performance upgrades and new notification schemes and a new multitasking menu. Samsung tablet owners should be wary that Android 5.0 still has bugs that are only squashed on the current Android 5.1 update, according to Android Authority.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 Wi-Fi version owners are still waiting for the new update as it has not yet rolled out on certain regions. Some speculate that it could take days or maybe even weeks before all areas receive the update.
Others are suggesting to check for the update on the Samsung Kies software instead of waiting on the OTA update. The support application has been a source of early updates from Samsung.
