Miley Cyrus is known to be controversial, but she may have outdone herself this time after she dyed her armpit hair pink following some criticisms that her armpits were unshaven.
It all began when Cyrus posted a semi-topless picture of herself in mid April as she anticipated her induction of Joan Jett and the Blackhearts into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. According to E! News, some fans, who were uncomfortable with her unshaven armpits, drew attention to it. At least one person described Cyrus' unshaven armpits as "disgusting."
In response to this incident it seems, Cyrus posted a series of pictures on her Instagram account on April 30, Thursday, as she dyed her armpit hair pink with the help of color expert Justin Anderson. "Pit party wiff @anderssonjj," she wrote in one of the pictures.
On May 1, Friday, in a white tank top, the 22-year-old pop star finally posted a picture to show the aftermath of her "piff party."
"It's Friday and I have pink pits," she announced on Instagram alongside a picture of her pink armpits.
While the coloring of one's armpit hair may seem rather strange to some people, it is actually an urban trend that has been around for a few years now. According to Pop Sugar, there is information on armpit dyeing on the internet that dates back to 2007!
Despite the craze about armpit dyeing, experts say the practice may not be very safe or healthy. Some commercial dyes and coloring kits are known to contain harmful chemicals which penetrate into the body during application.
