Sprint cellphone customers now have a reason to fly the skies. The telecom has teamed up with Boingo Wireless to provide Sprint's customers with free Wi-Fi service at 35 major airports in the U.S.

The secure connection to the Wi-Fi service will be automatic for Sprint subscribers, according to CNET. So they will not be required to log in.

Sprint promises that its business users' access to their corporate Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) will be reliable. Besides the connection being dependable it will also be a secure one.

Tech companies have been searching for ways to switch their customers to Wi-Fi connections whenever they can. That is because apps such as games have put a strain on cellphone networks.

For example, last week Google announced that its Nexus 6 smartphones could sign up for a new cellphone. The cellphone is greatly linked to Wi-Fi connections.

Stephen Bye, Sprint's Chief Technology Officer, said in a blog post that by providing more Wi-Fi connections its customers will have a "better" mobile experience. This will also lower their "data usage" cost, according to Los Angeles Times.

Several airports are included in Sprint's free Wi-Fi service. They include Los Angeles LAX, Boston Logan, and Dallas Love Field.

Besides its free airport Wi-Fi, Sprint has also launched Wi-Fi Connect. The consumer router positions the Wi-Fi calling feature of the carrier above all other activity.

The device operates on Sprint cellphones that offer its Wi-Fi calling. The majority of Sprint's Android phones, and the latest iPhone models both can have the voice and messaging services.
