Since "Avatar" became one of the highest grossing movies ever made, director James Cameron has dedicated the next decade of his life to carry on the franchise. "Avatar 2" is expected to hit the theatres in 2017, followed by "Avatar 3" and "Avatar 4" in 2018 and 2019 respectively. However, it appears now that the director has written too much material to be adjusted in three sequels, creating a possibility of "Avatar 5."
The revelation came from the movie's music composer, James Horner, during a recent interview in which he disclosed the fact that the film creator is working on not just three, but four scripts for the sequel of 2009 epic science fiction. Horner, who had also worked on the music of "Alien" and "Titanic," has emphasized that Cameron wants to release only three sequels and is trying hard to cut down the mammoth script into three movies, Breathecast reported. "Avatar 2" was earlier scheduled to release in 2016 but now has been shifted to 2017 release. According to Christian Post, Cameron wants to first finish the script of all the sequels and then start the production. The famed director reportedly wants to maintain the flow of income by releasing the movies within a short span of time so that there is enough fund for the sequels.
Based on Horner's statement, several movie critics and bloggers are speculating that to keep up with the schedule, Cameron may eventually bow to the script's demand and may agree to come up with "Avatar 5." The production of "Avatar 2" is expected to kick start this year.
Knowing that the time spanning the first draft of "Avatar" script to its official release was whopping 15 years, it is still a question how Camseron, known as the most meticulous man in Hollywood, will be able to release trilogy in the next few years.
