As part of its e-commerce campaign within the Fujian Free Trade Zone, the Xiamen City government has partnered with Amazon China to launch the “Taiwan pavilion,” an online market offering more than 5,000 kinds of products from Taiwan, according to an article published on wantchinatimes.com.
According to the article, the products offered in the site include masks, pineapple cakes and different kinds of electronic products, which can be delivered to Chinese clients within two to three days after the order was placed online.
The report said that Xiamen was chosen by Amazon China to become the physical site for its overseas e-trade activities due to the city's advantageous location and distance from Taiwan, as well as its status as a major port of the country's 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.
The report added that the city's collaboration with Amazon China would assure U.S. companies of a more convenient customs clearance, quick inspection of goods, tax rebates, cross-border payment, and logistics services in conducting e-commerce with overseas clients.
In Nov. 2014, Amazon China launched the platform for overseas shopping, with offered products that reached more than 1.7 million in value. The company's warehouses and logistics hubs are located in the Shanghai Free Trade Zone.
The Fujian Free Trade Zone includes four areas in Xiamen: the Xiangyu Bonded Area, the Haicang bonded port area, the Xiangyu bonded Logistics Park and the airport area.
As a special economic zone with duty-free areas and an export-processing zone, Xiamen is capable of having a comprehensive free trade zone to facilitate trade, investment, offshore financial services and economic cooperation across borders.
Since Fujian plays a key role in China's exchanges with Taiwan and the central government is planning to develop the province's economy to surpass Taiwan in 2020, the free trade zone is likely to be a part of the stimulus policies planned for Fujian.
