Migrant workers in China are growing increasingly dissatisfied with their life, according to a study.
The Social Survey Center of China Youth Daily, in cooperation with Daguu.com, has recently conducted a survey on what troubles China's migrant workers the most. Has it something to do with the economy? You might be in for a surprise, as the survey has found out that migrant workers' main concerns are love and marriage.
It is clear that migrant workers in the country are expressing discontent with their current conditions, but the survey reports that 47.8 percent of those who participated in the study chose love and marriage as the root of their dissatisfaction.
On the other hand, 38.4 percent of the respondents blame fatigue from overwork as the primary cause of displeasure.
Majority of respondents, however, are just not satisfied with their current employment.
Other factors that affect migrant workers' negative sentiments include pensions, social insurance and children's education.
There are several reasons and issues that influence workers to migrate to cities for employment. Financial pressure to support families is the key factor, while lack of development and employment opportunities in rural areas rank second. Other migrant workers say they might as well work and earn more while they still can.
Families and children of migrant workers are often left behind while they seek greener pastures. According to the new study, 22.5 percent of workers who responded left their children in their respective hometowns.
Despite employment opportunities and a chance for a better life, migrant workers still yearn to go back to their homes. Of the respondents, 38.8 percent plan to look for better employment, while 21.2 percent look forward to return to the simple life.
