"Selma" film helmer Ava DuVernay is being eyed by Marvel to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, possibly to direct "Black Panther" or "Captain Marvel."
It is suggested that DuVernay is to helm "Black Panther," due to its closer release date than "Captain Marvel, as per The Wrap.
The filmmaker is now in talks with Marvel about piloting one of the studio's upcoming films and it was reported that there is a shared interest in having DuVernay as part of the Marvel family.
DuVernay's filmmaking career started with her 2008 documentary "This in the Life," which centered on the history of hip hop movement that became famous in Los Angeles during the 1990's. It was followed by television music documentaries like the 2010 "My Mic Sounds Nice."
The 2010 film "I Will Follow" was DuVernay's first narrative feature movie and it earned the director the African-American Film Critics Association award for the best screenplay. She also won as Best Director in 2012 with her "Middle of Nowhere."
As per Empire Online, DuVernay will mark Marvel history as the first female director to a Marvel film, as Patty Jenkins dropped "Thor: The Dark World" due to creative differences and took the director's seat of DC's "Wonder Woman."
"Black Panther" is to be starred by "Get on Up" star Chadwick Boseman as the titular superhero. Also known as T'Challa, "Black Panther" takes over as leader of Wakanda as he avenges his father's death.
Meanwhile, "Captain Marvel" is still in search of the actress behind Carol Danvers, also known as Ms. Marvel, who obtains superpowers after meeting an alien from the Kree Empire.
"Black Panther" is slated to premiere in theaters on July 6, 2018 while "Captain Marvel" is set to hit the theaters on Nov. 2, 2018.
