Samsung Galaxy S3 reportedly received Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS update, although the smartphone is not signed up to get the firmware.
Samsung Galaxy S3 was released in 2012 and there is an unwritten rule that handsets that are over two years old should receive at most two software updates. The handset was released running with Ice Cream Sandwich and was updated to Jelly Bean and Kitkat OS.
However, Galaxy S3 is Samsung's most popular smartphone and received special treatment from the company and carriers. The Korean tech giant allowed and agreed upon with US and international carriers that it will receive Android 5.0.1 Lollipop and the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, according to Master Herald.
Meanwhile, creative minds came up with BlissPop ROM, which is a highly-customized ROM based on the CyanogenMod 12.1 source and comes with various custom builds.
Below is the step-by-step process on how to install the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop on Galaxy S3 I9300 with BlissPop ROM, according to International Business Times.
Step 1: Copy the downloaded file in your phone's internal storage.
Step 2: Download TWRP recovery on your handset.
Step 3: Boot the phone into recovery mode. Switch off the phone. Then press Power + Home + Volume Up buttons together until the TWRP logo appears on the screen.
Step 4: In the recovery mode, create a backup of the current ROM. Go to the recovery menu and select Backup and do a swipe on the Swipe to Back Up option on the bottom of the screen
Step 5: Perform a full factory wipe, and wipe/system and dalvik cache
Step 6: Return to the main recovery menu and select Install then head over to the location where you have saved the ROM, select it and click Swipe to Confirm Flash option. Wait until the installation is completed.
Step 7: Flash Gapps file, following the similar process how you install the CM12.1 ROM.
Step 8: When Gapps file is installed, navigate to the TWRP main recovery menu and select Reboot>> System.
