“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” the much-anticipated sequel to Disney’s “Avengers,” pulled in a total of $156.3 million in its first six days of opening in China, marking the second-biggest weekend ever at the country’s box office.
The film is only next to the "Furious 7," which gathered over $390 million overall in China, for having the biggest ever opening weekend. Meanwhile, the superhero blockbuster also grabbed the title of being the second biggest six-day start.
"Avengers: Age of Ultron" added around $185 million from 91 territories over the weekend, making its foreign total to $770.5 million and global cumulative sales to $1.142 billion.
Currently, the film is ranked as the eighth-highest grossing movie of all time.
In North America, the "Avengers" sequel landed in the third spot, collecting $38.8 million. The figure pushed its domestic tally to $372 million.
The film also became the second-biggest film release from the West in Asian territories such as Vietnam, Malaysia, South Korea and Hong Kong.
The Disney film features an all-star cast including several A-list Hollywood stars like Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk), Chris Evans (Captain America), and Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye).
The sequel, which brings back the biggest Marvel superheroes in the box office, is the 11th installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
According to Marvel, there will be a two-part sequel to the "Avengers: Age of Ultron" entitled "Avengers: Infinity War." While Part 1 is scheduled for release in May 2018, Part 2 will premiere in May the year after that.
