Google's patent filing for a robot teddy bear that could control WiFi devices, was published earlier this week. The fuzzy toy can receive and then recognize voice commands, and control media devices.
The Google patent was filed by two engineers in 2012. Based on the patent application filing, the new Google gadget is an "anthropomorphic device" that could be in the form of either a doll or toy, according to Time. It could interact with humans, or gadgets such as CPUs or DVRs.
Patent diagrams for the new device show the images of a stuffed bunny and a stuffed teddy bear. While the patent application explains that other forms could be aliens or dragons, it explains that cute robots would have appeal among both children and adults.
The WiFi gadget will contain various high tech tools. They include camera eyes, speaker mouths, and microphone ears.
The patent filing for the Google robot seems to imply the device will function as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and even a human companion. Like an animal pet it can show interest, curiosity and boredom.
Google has said that there is no guarantee that it will actually build or sell the stuffed toy with WiFi technology. In an e-mail statement Google stated that only some new ideas become actual products or services.
Still, other tech giants are already making plans for future Internet of Things (IoT) devices. Other similar products include Amazon's "Echo" WiFi remote, which can surf the Web or manage playlists, according to CNN.
The irony of the Google teddy bear is that one Google April Fools' Day gag included a stuffed panda. The news satire stated that it was being built to make the search engine friendlier.
