China's kung fu superstar Jackie Chan has finally realized his life-long dream of setting up his own school with the launching of the Jackie Chan Film and Television Academy, in Wuhan, Hubei, on May 20, Wednesday, the China Daily reported.
Jacky Chan, who was called by the new title of dean after launching his first school, said it was his life-long dream, and with the establishment of the school, aspiring actors and filmmakers can now benefit from the knowledge and experience that he has gained and pass it on to the next generation, the Chutian Metropolis Daily reported.
The report said that the academy was formed under the Wuhan Institute of Design and Sciences, to which the media school will be built.
Yang Weiping, the institute's publicity director, said that the school will offer undergraduate programs in performing arts, animation and digital media, with additional two major courses in anchoring and broadcast editing and directing.
"What we value is Jackie Chan's fame and experience," Yang said. "He has been in the movie industry for more than 40 years, and his movies have earned more than 20 billion yuan ($3.2 billion) at the box office. No other Chinese actor can compare with him."
In his micro blog, Chan expressed his excitement and sentiment.
"I didn't go to college, so I'm actually intimidated by the role of dean," Chan said on his micro blog.
The superstar also presented a star-studded line-up of guest professors, which include actresses Li Bingbing and Xu Fan, movie director Feng Xiaogang, and actor Zhang Guoli.
Chan also vowed to work hard, as he said that he will offer students with internship and employment opportunities as well as give lectures and instruction during movie sets.
"I will conscientiously perform my duty as the dean. I won't do harm to the students," Chan was quoted as saying.
