Volvo is competing with Tesla by making an SUV that attempts to mix the best elements of both the BMW i8 and a Tesla. For this marketing effort, the Gothenburg-based Swedish multinational manufacturing company invested $11 billion.
With more than 30,000 orders for all versions of the XC90 SUV, Volvo is just getting started with the project. Unlike some competitors, the company's plug-in SUV will get Apple CarPlay in November and Android Auto in April 2016, according to Seeking Alpha.
In particular, Volvo will upgrade the large touchscreen to Apple CarPlay and eventually to Google's Android Auto, which Tesla is not set to do. On the other hand, just like Tesla, Volvo is set to update the software of the large touchscreen over-the-air. After Tesla, the large center stack touchscreen is the second largest in the market.
Meanwhile, the attention of some electric car buffs is already shifting to the upcoming Tesla Model 3 while Tesla is preparing itself for the Model X release. While the company's founder and CEO Elon Musk manages to keep his celebrity, little is known about the Model 3 road vehicle.
Due to technical reasons, the release of the Model X was continually delayed and this is possibly why Tesla has done little to divulge any official details about the Model 3 aside from confirming its existence.
It appears that Tesla is anticipating that the Model 3 road vehicle may also significant delays, as Value Walk noted. What Musk has done in recent months, on the other hand, is to make several insightful statements about the future of Tesla.
