An elephant in Thailand got hold of a visitor's GoPro cam while it was still in continuous shooting mode, resulting in what many have started to call as an "elphie," to take into account the elephant factor in the selfie. This comes at a time when selfies have begun to be the new craze to hit the crowd.
It is not every day that one might get to hear of a selfie with an elephant though Vancouver resident Christian LeBlanc is the lucky recipient of one. The incident happened on the island of Koh Phangan in Thailand where he was travelling with his girlfriend earlier this year.
Surely, he can consider himself lucky considering how Kim Kardashian was attacked by an elephant in Thailand last year attempting to take a selfie with the jumbo.
The 22-year-old business student of the University of British Columbia decided to feed a few elephants he met with bananas. One of the elephant clearly had other ideas, as exemplified with the manner it went on to do a selfie act, CNN reported.
"Elephants are incredibly intelligent, and it definitely makes you wonder if it was a conscious action," LeBlanc said. "Its personality was very playful and it clearly had a craving for bananas because it devoured them."
The above development has come at a time when selfie has come to be described as the latest craze among the masses. A few studies too have linked selfies with mental disorders, as has been reported in Daily Mail.
Companies though are sparing no effort in upgrading their cam tech to feed the ever growing 'selfie' crowd. As a result we now have smartphones with bigger and better front facing cams, one that was perhaps considered to be an afterthought among the smartphone makers that had traditionally focussed more on the rear facing cam.
Both Samsung and HTC have made it a point their latest offerings, the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge as well as the One M9 are selfie ready enough. The 5 mp 1440p and 4 mp 1080p front facing cam that the S6/S6 Edge and One M9 comes with respectively is proof enough of this.
LG G4 ups the ante further with an 8 mp 1080p cam at the front. Compare these to the 2 mp or the 2.1 mp font facing camera that the S5 and G3 came with respectively just a year ago.
For HTC, it has been the other way round though as the last year's One M8 featured a higher rated 5 mp front facing camera.
The latest iPhone 6 and 6 Plus can be considered a disappointment in comparison to the above mentioned phones considering the 1.2 mp 720p front facing cam they come with. This again is the same that made it to the front of the iPhone 5S showing Apple to be immune from the selfie craze so far.
