More than 25,000 people came to the first 2015 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Asia held in Shanghai on May 25, Monday, with more than 200 exhibitors from 15 countries presenting their latest products, technology and services, the Global Times reported.
Touted as the world's most influential consumer electronics annual exhibition, the U.S.-based international show has been held every January in Las Vegas, Nevada, since 1967.
CES will run from My 25-27 at the Shanghai New International Expo Center, the report said. The show was highlighted by various forums and product release conferences, featuring seven keynote addresses by industry leaders, including senior management in Fortune 500 companies and other high-tech enterprises.
"The abundance of cool technology and vast spending potential in China have spurred CES to shift its attention to Asia, to China more precisely," a marketer at Twitter Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd., who refused to give his last name, told the Global Times.
According to a report by Futuresource Consulting, a British consultancy, China accounted for 22 percent of the global consumption in consumer electronics in 2014, almost equal to the amount in the U.S.
A German consultancy firm said that the sales of global consumer electronics are expected to reach 790 billion euros ($867.42 billion) in 2015, increasing 1.5 percent year-on-year, which will continue to rise in 2016.
More than half or 55 percent of the 200 exhibitors at the international show came from the Chinese mainland, the report said.
The organizers added that the show is focused in three major themes--innovation, connectivity and the Internet of Things--covering 14 product categories including 3D printing, robotics, and Smart Home technologies.
More than 3,200 exhibitors participated in the CES in Las Vegas in Jan. 2014.
