Yesteryear star, Betsy Palmer, who shot to fame as the murderous camp cook in the cheesy horror film "Friday the 13th," has passed away. She was 88.
The actress died at a hospice care center in Connecticut due to natural causes. The news of her death was given by her longtime manager, Brad Lemack, on Sunday. She is survived by her daughter, Melissa Merendino, Fox News reported.
Before appearing in her iconic role as Mrs. Voorhees in the campy 1980 movie, the veteran actress appeared in various other films, Broadway shows and in TV shows for decades. She was the part of several golden shows of 1950s era such as "Kraft Theatre," ''Playhouse 90" and "Studio One."
Palmer also had also done several movies namely, "Mr. Roberts" with Henry Fonda, "The Long Gray Line" with Tyrone Power and Maureen O'Hara, "Queen Bee" with Joan Crawford, and "The Tin Star" with Fonda and Anthony Perkins. The actress, who will always be remembered as the killer cook from the popular horror franchise, once famously revealed that she agreed to do the villainous role as she needed money to buy a new car, Huffington Post reported.
As the years progressed, Palmer eventually embraced the role of a horror queen and appeared in several of its sequels. She also played herself in 2006 documentary, "Betsy Palmer: A Screen Queen Legend." The actress ended her rule on horror genre when she turned down the offer of 2003 "Freddy vs Johnson" reportedly due to poor pay.
Apart from the hit movie, another venture of the actress which helped her in becoming a household name was "I've Got A Secret." She joined the show in 1958 and continued until the show's finale in 1967.
