E.L. James has written a new entry in the "Fifty Shades of Grey" series titled "Grey," which takes its male character Christian Grey's perspective, as announced on June 1, Monday, by publisher Vintage Books, a division of Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group.
"Grey" will hit shelves on June 18, which is the title character's birthday. In a statement obtained by Reuters, Vintage Books said James will offer her fans in the new book "the opportunity to see the world of 'Fifty Shades' anew through the eyes of its intriguing and enigmatic protagonist."
According to James, she wrote "Grey" in response to fans who have been looking for Christian Grey's point of view. The British novelist explained that the protagonist is a complex character with desires, motivations and troubled past that have always fascinated readers.
"Also, as anyone who has ever been in a relationship knows, there are two sides to every story," James further explained why she wrote a novel featuring Christian Grey's perspective. Aside from being published in Britain, "Grey" will also be available and in audio and Spanish-language editions as well as an eBook.
Having sold more than 125 million copies, the "Fifty Shades Of Grey" trilogy about the erotic relationship between business tycoon Christian Grey and college student Anastasia Steele is one of the most successful series in the history of publishing.
After the film adaptation of the first book starring Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, which has earned over $500 million internationally, film adaptations of the second and third books are on the way.
Currently, Dornan stars in the British series "The Fall." In an interview with Gold Derby, the actor talked about the violence in the show. He said, "You're with some lovely actress, and you're having to do kind of horrible things to her. I was always very apologetic, and when I was finished I always felt like I needed to get myself as far from that head space as I can."
