A rumor surrounding the upcoming Nintendo system codenamed NX claimed that the device might be running on Google Android operating system.
Citing Japanese business newspaper Nikkei Shimbun, The Verge reported that the rumor can be traced back to an anonymous insider claiming to have close ties with Nintendo and the story was presented as a column and not as a typical news story.
According to Hard Core Gamer, the report from Nikkei Shimbun claim that Nintendo's rumored decision to use the Android operating system stemmed from the fact that most of Wii U developers are abandoning the system. This prompted the company to use an open platform, like Android, in order to give its developers an easier way to create content for its system.
Recently, Nintendo closed a deal with Japanese mobile developer DeNA in order to create games aimed to be released on the Android and iOS platform. The move from Nintendo to enter the mobile market will be critical in the company's success. Nintendo Wii U, in terms of sales, has been lagging behind the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Nintendo did not provide any comment about the latest rumors involving the company's plan for its future as well as its current projects. Nintendo is one of the best video game developer in the world. However, the company's failure to assert its dominance in emerging markets has seriously affected the company's profit and sales.
Industry experts are still skeptical about Nintendo games running on the Android platform. Nintendo is well known for developing unique consoles in the past and porting its games to the Android platform will break that age-old company philosophy.
