With the WWDC Apple event slated for June 8, the Silicon Valley company has made a surprising announcement to delay the reveal of the new and redesigned Apple TV. Instead of the expected unveiling during the kickoff keynote, the reveal has been pushed back with no definite date of release.
The New York Times was the first to report on Apple's plans for the Apple TV. Previous reports of the Apple TV already being ready for public showing at the WWDC event were already coming in as early as May. The developments for the device include the remote control as well as the HomeKit to be given to developers for creating apps tailored to the Apple TV.
However, it appears that the company has postponed plans for reveal because the product is still not ready for public showcase. Apple has not yet confirmed or denied the statement as of writing.
As far as the Apple TV being a HomeKit hub is concerned, new details have been spotted over at the Apple Support page. According to 9 to 5 Mac, Apple has released some new information that confirms the HomeKit capabilities of the Apple TV.
The report stated that users with an Apple TV that are of the third generation or later and bearing the software version 7.0 above will have the ability to control HomeKit-enabled accessories. This can be done remotely via an iOS device.
This supports not only the suspicions of an upcoming redesigned Apple TV, but also the fact that remote access and control is in the works for Apple users. Additionally, Apple appears to be updating its list of HomeKit devices compatible to the HomeKit hub, with more information on how to set up Apple HomeKit-enabled accessories.
The Apple TV has last seen a major update in 2012. A lot of users and Apple fans have been clamoring for a new version with upgraded specs. The addition of HomeKit support is considered as one of the more awaited inclusions ever since it had been sighted in the Apple TV firmware 7.0 beta run.
