The 20th Century Fox's James Bond spoof "Spy" starring Melissa McCarthy and Jason Statham dominated the weekend box office having earned $30 million from North American theaters. The previous week's box office number one "San Andreas" ranked number two with $26.4 million.

Written and directed by Paul Feig, "Spy" features an ensemble cast. Joining McCarthy and Statham are Rose Byrne, Jude Law, Miranda Hart, Jessica Chaffin, Sam Richardson, Katie Dippold, Raad Rawi, Richard Brake, Michael McDonald, Will Yun Lee and Carlos Ponce, among others.

It cost $65 million to make "Spy," an R-rated the comedy which was welcomed by critics with rave reviews. According to Fox domestic distribution chief Chris Aronson, "Spy" has an advantage in appealing to adults and having great reviews.

"Laughter does cure all, and there isn't another comedy in the marketplace for three weeks," Aronson stated, as Hollywood Reporter quoted him as saying.

With $13 million, ranking number three at the weekend box office is "Insidious: Chapter 3," which was previously expected to be the biggest box office rival of "Spy," according to Box Office Mojo. At number four is the film version of the hit HBO series "Entourage" which earned $10.4 million.

Written and directed by Leigh Whannell, "Insidious: Chapter 3" stars Dermot Mulroney, Stefanie Scott, Angus Sampson, Lin Shaye, Tate Berney, Michael Reid Mackay, Steve Coulter, Hayley Kiyoko, Corbett Tuck, Tom Gallop and Ele Keats, among others.

Doug Ellin's "Entourage" stars Jeremy Piven, Kevin Connolly, Adrian Grenier, Jerry Ferrara, kevin Dillon, Rex Lee, Rhys Coiro and Haley Joel Osment, among others. "Furious 7" actress and UFC champion Ronda Rousey also appeared as herself in the film.

The Tom Hardy starrer "Mad Max: Fury Road" ranked number five at the weekend box office having earned almost $8 million.
