With the shooting of the final season of "Downton Abbey" underway, the British period drama creator Julian Fellowes continues to keep cast members in the dark as to how the show will end.
Commenting on the series finale at a Writers Guild Theatre discussion, Fellowes who is responsible for crafting every episode told attendees he has kept the cast in the dark as he is still to get down to writing the finale, according to Hollywood Reporter.
The final season will be aired in the United Kingdom in the fall with the finale as is customary with the show to conclude on Christmas Day under the Masterpiece banner of PBS.
The character of Lord Grantham the patriarch of the series played by Hugh Bonneville told those at the discussion, the finality of the series has not yet dawned on the cast.
With 11 weeks of production still underway, Bonneville said he felt reality will set in with the filming of the last scene. However so far there has been no choking up on set according to the entertainment website.
Together with executive producer of the show Gareth Neame, Fellowes teased the gathering with spoilers, while showing a short video which hinted at more battles between Maggie Smith's character Violet and Isobel Crawley played by Penelope Wilton.
Among the possible plot lines is a marriage between the characters of Carson the butler played by Jim Carter and Phyllis Logan's character Mrs Hughes.
The hard decision to end the show by creators is out of practical reasons according to TV Line with many of the contracts of the cast members drawing to a close at the end of Season 6 it has been indicated that the cast are ready to move on.
A source quoted by the movie website said the series has gone on despite two crucial characters of Mathew and Sybil leaving, but it is difficult to continue without the cast of the entire Crawley family.
With the series drawing to a close it is reported that creator Julian Fellowes will turn his attention to another NBC drama titled "The Gilded Age."
