The highly anticipated Apple Music was finally announced at Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference. The new music service from Apple combines on-demand music streaming with Internet radio station manned by human DJ's as well as a newly developed recommendation engine.
Despite Apple's ambitious attempt to thwart its competition in the music streaming market, many industry experts think that the so-called "Spotify Killer" is facing a tough race towards the top.
Currently, Spotify has more than 60 million users. Pandora currently has 79 million active monthly users, according to CNBC.
In order to attract its competitions user base, Apple Music will focus on releasing exclusive contents for its service. Additionally, Apple Music will be integrated into Apple devices once iOS 8.4 is released later this month. This means that Apple users who will upgrade to iOS 8.4 and later versions will automatically receive the Apple Music app.
Apple Music will also have a feature called Beats 1 which is a 24/7 Internet radio. World class DJ's are already slated to host the channel. Apple revealed that Ebro Darden, Julie Adenuga and Zane Lowe are among the top DJ's the company picked to host the Internet station.
Apple Music will be offered free for the first three months and a $9.99 subscription fee is required if users want to continue in using the service. Apple Music's premium service boasts ad-free music streaming, the same subscription scheme is currently offered by Spotify.
According to Wired, it is the free music streaming service offered by Spotify that makes it hard for Apple Music to even balance the playing field in the music streaming market.
DigMark CEO Jay Frank said, "The majority of Americans still don't use a paid music streaming service."
