"Dawson's Creek" showrunner Kevin Williamson recently revealed that Joey and Dawson should have ended up together during the final episode of the hit series.
Williamson attended the recently concluded ATX Television Festival in Texas and that was where they revealed the shocking news, according to KPopStarz.
While there, he confirmed that he always wanted Joey to end up with Dawson, however, he had an epiphany while he was writing the script for the finale episode.
According to him, they decided to push through with the Joey-Pacey storyline because they wanted to show that not all soul mates can actually end up together. Additionally, Williamson said that they wanted to surprise fans while preserving the truthfulness of the story.
Williamson also said that for him, Joey, Dawson and Pacey were all soul mates with each other.
Meanwhile, he also explained their decision to kill off Michelle Williams' character Jen Lindley towards the end of the series, US Weekly reported.
At that time, Joey, Pacey and Dawson had to mourn the loss of their friend Jen because Williamson believed that it was a necessary part of the story. He added that the characters previously dealt with the death of a parent, but not the death of someone from their circle.
"Dawson's Creek" aired from 1998 to 2003 and it starred Katie Holmes as Joey, James Van Der Beek as Dawson and Joshua Jackson as Pacey. As of late, there have been rumors that a reunion could take place but Williamson said that he does not want to see the four characters grow up.
