In order to ensure that the Nexus 5 2015 will sell better than the Motorola-built Nexus 6 on release date, Google will reportedly retail the upcoming flagship at no more than $500 or probably even lower. While the pricing is welcome there might be a few trade-offs that will get unboxed with the device.
The smartphone flagship standard has been consistently rising and going on the same vertical route is the tag price. Most of the popular brands, in unlocked state, sit on store shelves with the asking price beyond the $600 point. But users are getting what they paid for - the best components available that fire up the handsets' killer features and the always expected premium build and design.
Will it be the same with the Nexus 6 sequel? Will the Nexus 2015 with its relatively affordable sticker price, rumored to originate from LG's production lines, not scrimp on parts, inside and out? The likelihood is some form of compromise will emerge like the three detailed below:
Plastic Casing
Flagship phones these days point to two words - metal and glass. The materials have been the iPhone signature for the longest time and Samsung embraced the same with its gorgeous - the Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge.
The expectation is Google will take on the same path but speculations are rife that the regular-sized Nexus 5 2015 is codenamed LG Bullhead. The assumption is this Bullhead and the 5.2-inch LG G4 are one and the same with a few touches of slight changes.
Now everyone knows that save for the leather back plate options of the G4, the device is mostly plastic-wrapped. So it is not too remote that once the next Nexus is out, plastic is the dominant theme of its outer shell.
Insignificant Camera Upgrade
The LG Nexus 5 showcased an 8MP main shooter that the Nexus 6 has largely replicated. The 2015 Nexus is anticipated to exceed its two immediate predecessors in this department but Android Pit is advising fans not to set their hopes too high.
For $500, "it's best not to expect the most powerful camera on board," the blog report said. It is hard to imagine how Google will squeeze in a camera system with the Nexus 2015 that will be at par with that of the iPhone 6S and the Galaxy Note 5 considering the limited budget.
Underpowered CPU
If indeed the LG G4 will be the repurposed Nexus 5 2015 then the power beneath is the hexagon Snapdragon 808, which not is exactly a pushover in the field. But buy the time that the device will have hit the market its rivals are bustling with 8-core behemoth of processing chips with the added premium of higher energy efficiency. The latter is an across the board jump for most of the 2015 flagships - existing and upcoming.
But the good thing is nothing really is written in stone for the Nexus 5 2015 the final cut can still certainly pull a giant surprise on its release date. That happening should be between October and November 2015, traditionally the preferred touchdown moment by the vanilla Android-powered Google flagship.
