Tim Hawking, 36, has recently dished on his father Stephen Hawking, the world's most famous physics professor, as part of a BBC documentary. Among the things he disclosed was the fact that he and his father are both a big fan of motor-racing.
According to Tim, he and his father would often watch races with Formula 1 supremo Frank Williams, who was also in a wheelchair. A languages graduate from Exeter University, Tim is currently working in marketing for the toy firm Lego, Daily Mail has learned.
For Tim, the piece of advice given to him by his father that he has treasured the most is the one he told him when he was 12. The world-famous theoretical physicist's son said, "He told me never to be afraid to come up with an idea or a hypothesis no matter how daft it might seem."
The effects of motor neurone disease forced Stephen to communicate with an electronic voice synthesiser. But for his son, the speech box's monotone drawl was the key to a loving bond, which many may not expect, and not the obstacle.
Tim admitted that he was not able to understand his father's deteriorating speech during his earliest years. He explained that although his father was able to speak with his own, natural voice for those first years, it was incredibly difficult to understand what he was saying.
According to Tim, watching the 2014 biopic "The Theory Of Everything" for the first time was a lot more emotional than he thought it would be as he has never known his father as an able-bodied person.
"To actually see him as a young man, that was one of the really lovely things about the film for me," Tim said.
"The Theory Of Everything" earned Eddie Redmayne an Oscar award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Tim's father. Redmayne was one of the British actors honored by the Queen in the 2015 Birthday Honours List receiving Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE), Express reported.
