"Grey's Anatomy" Season 12 has a new doctor, and he's in. Martin Henderson has signed on, according to reports. Meanwhile, Patrick Dempsey has moved on from playing the late Derek Shepherd.
Program creator and producer Shonda Rhimes has yet to comment on the casting of Martin Henderson. Reports are saying he is the new McDreamy; he is replacing Derek Shepherd. For some fans, however, they are done watching "Grey's Anatomy" since Shondaland has killed off their favorite character.
Born in New Zealand, Henderson is a busy man on American television. He plays Harold Jensen in "The Red Road" and Ben Gundelach in "Secrets & Lies." He was also a part of a medical drama (also from Shonda Rhimes): "Off the Map."
According to TV Line, "Grey's Anatomy" Season 12 could see Henderson reprising his Dr. Been Keeton role in "Off the Map." This is merely a "crazy thought," raised by TVLine's Michael Aussiello. No one could say it is impossible, though.
It remains to be seen whether Henderson would have direct ties to any of the remaining series originals, which include Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson, James Pickens Jr. and Justin Chambers. If Henderson's casting is truly an attempt at replacing McDreamy, his role could be connected romantically to an existing character.
Henderson's character could also be connected to the developing stories involving Jerrika Hinton's Edwards and Camilla Luddington's Wilson. These two besties are expected to get more screen time in the next season of the series.
Meanwhile, Patrick Dempsey recently found himself on the triumphant side of car racing in France. PEOPLE reported Dempsey finished second with teammates Patrick Long and Marco Seefried at the Le Mans 24 Hours on Sunday (June 14).
"It's hard to put into words what this means," Dempsey was quoted as saying. "The team did a great job in all the pit stops, and Patrick and Marco just drove beautifully through the whole race and into the night when it was really tough."
