Rumors recently surfaced about the second generation Apple Watch and claims that the wearable device might be released sooner than initially anticipated. The second generation Apple Watch or Apple Watch 2 is also rumored to sport a new design and several new features.
According to MacWorld, Apple Watch 2 will be launched in April 2016. Coincidentally, the first generation Apple Watch was released in April.
Rumors claim that Apple is working to integrate a FaceTime video camera into the rumored Apple Watch 2. If this is true, the smartwatch will allow its users to receive and make calls via FaceTime. Additionally, the FaceTime camera will be installed on Apple Watch 2's top bezel.
During the 2015 Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple announced that the upcoming WatchOS 2 will have support for FaceTime audio calls.
According to 9to5Mac, Apple is working for a "tether-less" Apple Watch. This means that the Apple Watch 2 will have more functionality even if it is not connected to an iPhone. While the current Apple Watch have features that does not require iPhone connectivity like music playback and mobile payment, most of the smartwatch's functionality still relies on Wi-Fi connection tethered from an iPhone device.
Apple is rumored to install a new Wi-Fi chip on the Apple Watch 2. This will allow the Apple Watch 2 to perform functions such as text messaging and email without the need to connect to an iPhone.
While most Apple Watch users are contented with the smartwatch's battery-life, many are still urging Apple to upgrade the device's battery. Apple Watch's rivals like the Pebble Time Steel boasts a battery life that can lasts up to 10 days. Due to the smartwatch's limited hardware size, upgrading the battery means that Apple will have to cut some of its hardware in order to make room for a bigger battery.
