General Motors unveils the 2016 Chevrolet Cruze compact car at the Fillmore Theater in Detroit. The new Chevrolet Cruze promises a longer and lighter body as well as increase in fuel efficiency.
The 2016 Chevrolet Cruze weighs 250 pounds lighter and 2.7 inches longer compared to the 2015 model. According to USA Today, Chevrolet was able to attain this lightweight build by using aluminum engine block and incorporating a new procedure in terms of steelmaking. The extra space will provide additional leg room in the back-seat of the car.
Just like most of Chevrolet's 2016 car models, the Cruze can be integrated by either Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. This new telematics feature from Google and Apple allow drivers to run their respective smartphone operating system on the car's dashboard head unit.
According to Reuters, the 2016 Cruze will be released in 40 international markets including Brazil, China, India and the United States. GM also estimates that the 2016 Cruze will generate at least $1,600 more per-car profit compared to the 2015 model.
The 2016 Chevrolet Cruze will have a new 153-horsepower four-cylinder 1.4-liter Ecotec turbo engine. It is available in six-speed manual or automatic transmission. GM claims that the car's new engine has a 40 miles-per-gallon fuel efficiency.
The 2016 Chevrolet Cruze also features several safety technology. It has a blind zone alert, forward collision alert, lane departure alert and rear cross traffic alert. The car also has 10 airbags installed.
General Motors North America president Alan Batey said, "the Cruze's approach to proportion and premium details adds to Chevrolet's elevation of craftsmanship, content, quality and a fresh interpretation n an identity that is unmistakably Chevrolet."
