Microsoft has finally launched the Office for Android platform after they rolled out the suite package as a preview. Office includes Word, Excel and PowerPoint that were designed to fit the Android smartphone experience.
Office allows the users to open, edit and save files. It also supports the ability to review and edit files while on the go and can be used on company presentations made on PowerPoint directly from the smartphone. Users can quickly pull up files stored from online services like Dropbox, Google Drive or Box. The company redesigned Office to fit on the smaller screens.
The app is available on Google Play and is free to download and use provided that users have a free Microsoft account, but several extra features for additional functionalities can be unlocked with an Office 365 subscription. The Word app is under the default of page layout similar to desktop version, and can be zoomed in and out automatically as users edit the file. There is also the toogle button the lets the user to switch to a screen-filling mobile format for smooth readability. The Powerpoint app allows the subscribers to send the presentation wirelessly to a monitor using the phone to keep track of the notes. However, users have to pay to get the full functionalities of the app.
Users should have 1 GB of RAM and runs under Android KitKat (4.4.x) or above, however Android M is not yet supported. Office will be pre-installed on devices such as Samsung, LG, Sony, and others, TechCrunch reported.
The Redmond, Washington-based tech giant partnered with more than 30 global, local and regional OEM’S to preload the Office app on their Android phone lines. In China, Office app is available on other stores like Tencent, Baidu, Xiaomi, and CMCC, and Samsung Galaxy Store worldwide, according to Android Guys.
