Samsung recently announced that it will release a patch in order to lift the setting that disable all Windows update on Samsung computers.
In a statement, Samsung told Venture Beat, "We will be issuing a patch through the Samsung Software update notification process to revert back to the recommended automatic Windows Update setting within a few days."
It was recently discovered that computers manufactured by Samsung has a hidden software embedded deep into its system called "Disable_Windowsupdate.exe." The executable file disables the automatic Windows Update. Even if users change their Windows settings to automatically install updates, the computer will return to the manual update setting once rebooted, according to The Times Gazette.
When discovered, Samsung received several complaints saying that the company's policy interferes with what users really want to do with their personal computer. Additionally, disabling the Windows Update will result in some critical patch not being installed into the user's computer.
Samsung disabled the automatic Windows Update protocol in order to prevent the update from installing default drivers that might interfere with some features like the USB 3.0 support. Additionally, Samsung said that it does not completely block Microsoft from issuing updates, the company only wants to screen all the updates coming through in order to prevent compatibility issues with their hardware.
On the other hand, Microsoft has always implied that users need to set their computers to automatically receive updates. This is to make sure that their computers have the up-to-date security software in order to protect them from hacking attacks. Microsoft also said that Samsung need to patch the problem quickly before the Windows 10 operating system will be released.
