There's been massive success for the record-breaking dinosaur film "Jurassic World," starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, as it enjoys three consecutive weeks at the top. With earnings of $54.2 million this weekend, the latest Jurassic movie has pulled in total of $1.24 billion since showing.
Actors Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard have mesmerized audiences around the globe, as their movie earnings continue to gain momentum without showing any hint of slowing down any time soon.
The film, directed by Colin Trevorrow, hit the $1 billion mark at the global box office on Monday, merely two weeks after its first showing, making the movie the fastest to reach this spot, the Hollywood Reporter said.
The "Jurassic World" also enjoys box-office hits in the United Kingdom, with $30.4 million over its opening weekend, marking the region its best weekend since Nov. 2012.
Chinese moviegoers contributed a lot to this success, as a big part of the revenue that hit a cumulative $161.7 million just two weeks after the film's release came from China.
In a separate report, Hollywood Reporter cited data from Entgroup, a Chinese website that specializes on entertainment research and web insights, that "Jurassic World" was shown 339,013 times, with 10.88 million admissions in China by the second week.
The movie, produced by Universal Pictures, made a wise and calculated move to market to China's lucrative movie industry.
To further increase excitement for the movie, director Trevorrow and actors Pratt and Howard paid a special visit to China as part of their international media tour.
China is becoming a more prominent figure on the Hollywood press tour, especially in terms of big action movies. Recent successes like the "Furious 7," "Transformers: Age of Extinction," and another Pratt starrer, "Guardians of the Galaxy," were all huge box-office hits in China.
The revenues from big American action movies show how Chinese people appreciate these kinds of movies. Chinese box-office experts told Forbes that "Jurassic World" is projected to earn 2 billion yuan (almost $322 million) in China.
After three weeks of the movie's performance at the box office, it all seems possible that "Jurassic World" would eventually be the second-highest grossing film of all time, behind "Furious 7."
