Rumors are swirling that Dallas Cowboys running back Darren McFadden is in danger of being cut or traded by the team before the season starts in September. The Inquisitr reported that the Cowboys are looking for a veteran running back to take his place in the roster as a backup to emerging star Joseph Randle.
It was reported that management and coaches are inclined on starting the 23-year-old former Oklahoma State standout as he is said to be younger and fitter than the injury-prone McFadden. Randle is consistently showing his speed and on-field IQ all throughout the organized team activities and their mandatory minicamp, prompting coaches to believe that he is indeed an untapped talent last season because of the presence of DeMarco Murray.
McFadden is still a force to reckon with at the offensive backfield, but he just can't seem to remain in good physical shape. In his whole seven-year career, he had managed to complete a 16-game regular season only once.
It was speculated that the Cowboys are looking at free agents Knowshon Moreno, Pierre Thomas, Chris Johnson, and Steven Jackson as possible replacements for the former Arkansas Razorback.
The team was reportedly looking for any of these veterans to provide Randle the guidance that he needs, something that the coaching staff believes McFadden could not accomplish.
However, according to the Dallas Morning News McFadden should be a shoo-in as a third running back behind Randle and Lance Dunbar. The possible exclusions would be the injured Ryan Williams and newcomer Lache Seastrunk.
But with the Cowboys' apparent doubt on McFadden's health, he may well be traded for a veteran back or cut from the team entirely much sooner than expected.
