Since he plays a superhero, Batman, actor Ben Affleck will live up to his lead role as the Caped Crusader by showing up on Saturday, July 11, at the Comic-Con International: San Diego. This, despite personal trials in his life.
Affleck confirmed his divorce, after a decade of married life, from wife Jennifer Garner. In spite of this unhappy episode in Affleck's life, Warner Bros - the producer of the much anticipated "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" - announced on Wednesday that the 42-year-old actor would show on stage with the rest of the cast of the movie and its director Zach Snyder, People reports.
To join Affleck in Comic-Con are Henry Cavill, who plays Superman, and Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter and Gal Gadot.
The actor told Entertainment Weekly that his character in the film, Batman, "is basically the American version of Hamlet" which has been played by various actors with different interpretations. His version, Affleck said, is older than that portrayed by Christian Bale in the Dark Knight trilogy. "He's at the end of his run and maybe the end of his life. There's this sort of world-weariness to it," he said.
Unlike many Hollywood couples with bad breakups, Affleck and Garner said that despite having to make the difficult decision of divorcing, they agreed to go forward with love and friendship for each other. They also committed to co-parent their children and asked media and the public to respect the privacy of their kids, E! Online reports.
According to the entertainment portal, the couple have been undergoing counselling the past two years. The pair have three children: 9-year-old Violet, 6-year-old Seraphina and 3-year-old Samuel. Affleck has moved out of the house, but he will remain on their family property in another building.
