The Nexus 2015 release date countdown has officially started as Google's current flagship, the Motorola Nexus 6, now comes with significant price off over the Google Play Store. The latest move, as experts would say, likely signals that preparations are ongoing for the vanilla Android sequel this year.
Beginning this week, the Play Store's sticker price for the 64GB Nexus 6 is set at £379 or roughly $650 while the 32GB model is cut down to £304 or $600. The price points, according to Engadget, are considered as all-time low for the pure Android handsets, which debuted in late 2014 bearing tag prices of $800 and $750 respectively.
In comparison, what Google offers for its outgoing flagship is significantly lower to that of Motorola, maker of the 2014 Nexus. It appears too, per the report by Mobile Syrup, that the price shave off is permanent, meaning there will be no upward movement on the retail price from hereon. If there should be in the coming months, is should be heading south.
Now Google's decision to lower the price of the Nexus 6, which many in the Android world thought to be overpriced, could mean two things: either the tech giant wants to reverse the relatively negative reception that the device has generated or it aims to cash in on the remaining stocks of the phablet Android as quick as possible.
The former intention is noble but the latter is more notable as it also points to a likely Google plan that says efforts are underway to clear out the Nexus 6 inventory for the purpose of creating space for the now model. That translates into one exciting scenario - that the Nexus 2015 touchdown is happening soon.
To date, however, Google's lips on the matter remain zipped and Android fans mostly depend on rumors and unconfirmed reports to satisfy their cravings for the next Nexus updates. So far, it is believed that there will be two models to rollout and one would be a jumbo phone that reportedly will be assembled by Chinese giant device vendor Huawei. This 5.7-inch phablet is being referred to for the moment as the Huawei Angler.
And there will be a regular-size variant that according to speculations will again carry the LG brand and is codenamed LG Bullhead. The device is said to be the repurposed LG G4 though are chatters that suggest the smartphone is actually the upgraded Nexus 5. In many reports, this supposedly LG-made device is being labelled as the Nexus 5 2015.
But all these murmurings will only get confirmation in the last quarter of 2015 as Google traditionally provides its signature during the holiday period of the year. Still, the Nexus 2015 release date might happen a little earlier, likely in late September, as reports came out last week that claimed the device will be issued together with Android M.
