With Kyle Balda and Pierre Coffin's animated comedy film "Minions" hitting the big screen in few days, the animated film has grabbed the top spot of the box office in the United Kingdom.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, the animated film has surpassed Colin Trevorrow's "Jurassic World" in its reign as U.K.'s highest grossing film in the box office. "Minions" has got $18.2 million, which was twice of Trevorrow's dinosaur sequel. "Minions" also managed to top Lee Unkrich's 2010 animated film "Toy Story 3," which got $18.0 million in U.K.'s box office five years ago.
With the remarkable box office results of Balda and Coffin's upcoming "Minions," the Illumination Entertainment animated film has high chances to hit the big screen with flying colors, according to Cinema Blend. When that happens, "Minions" becomes one of the top animated film in the box office, along with "Frozen" and "Toy Story."
Balda and Coffin's "Minions" serves as a prequel of the "Despicable Me" franchise. The original "Despicable Me" film was released on July 9, 2010 and has got an estimated global gross of $543 million. "Despicable Me 2" hit the big screen on July 3, 2013, making an impressive estimated global gross of $971 million.
"Minions" follows the small lovable yellow creatures as they go across history in pursuit of their despicable master. Stuart, Kevin, and Bob become recruits of supervillain Scarlet Overkill and her husband Herb, as they unravel their plan of taking over the world.
The Illumination Entertainment film features the voices of Coffin, Sandra Bullock, Sandra Bullock, and Jon Hamm, among others. Along with Balda and Coffin as directors, Chris Renaud, Janet Healy, Dave Rosenbaum, and Christopher Meledandri will produce the film.
