New rumor suggests that Apple may come up with a new iPod soon, although there are persistent reports of the once popular MP3 player have seen its best days already.

The latest rumor claimed that new iPod versions appeared in iTunes 12.2 sporting three new color shades. Moreover, the Calendar app on the iPod Touch in the images depicted "Tuesday 14", which has led many to speculate if the refreshed iPods could be in for a re-launch as early as next week itself.

However, while all three versions of the iPod - Nano, Compact and Touch - were seen, all of them are identical with current versions. This has sparked speculations if the makeover is largely cosmetic or if there are enough changes under the hood.

However, one physical change that can be seen is the lack of the wrist loop which seems to have been done away with, The Independent reported.

The iPod has seen a consistent decline in its sales during the last few years, but Apple seemed not a bit concerned as the Cupertino-based company can take solace from the ever growing demand for its iPhone range that alone is touted to earn more than half of the company's annual revenues.

Steve Jobs once famously stated: "We have designed the best iPod ever," as has been quoted by The Verge.

That is quite understandable considering the iPhone can do all what the iPod does; thus, negating the need to carry a separate device just for music. Moreover, Apple fanboys are looking forward more to the iPhone 7 than the iPod, although both are expected to be announced around September.
