Chinese meteorologists at the National Meteorological Center (NMC) have recorded the lowest temperature in 145 years on July 6, Monday, with the thermometer registering 17.3 degree Celsius, which was close to the historic maximum temperature of 15.9 degree Celsius that was recorded on July 2, 1876.
The highest temperature of the day was 21.2 degree Celsius, similar to that on July 6, 1903, and the average temperature was 18.9 degree Celsius, making it the lowest average temperature in July in 142 years since 1873.
Meteorologist Zhang Ruiyi said that the record low temperature was the result of several days of rains under cold air mass as the city is experiencing the middle of the monsoon season.
The report said that three typhoons are approaching coastal China, which may bring gales and rainstorms that are expected to make the weather even cooler.
The National Meteorological Center (NMC) predicted that the three typhoons--named Chan-hom, Linfa and Nangka--had formed on the northwest Pacific, but only the first two are expected to affect China.
The NMC said that Linfa, the 10th typhoon this year, was moving toward the island at 10 kilometers per hour and its center was located 335 kilometers southwest of Taiwan's Eluanbi at 5 p.m. on July 6, Monday.
Linfa was downgraded to tropical storm level on July 6, Monday afternoon, with sustained winds of 23 meters per second near its center, the NMC added.
According to the meteorologists, Chan-hom, the ninth typhoon this year, was located about 1,950 kilometers southeast of the Diaoyu Islands at 5 p.m. It is gaining strength as it moved northwest toward the Chinese mainland and is expected to hit the country's eastern coast on July 10, Friday.
