Motorola has reportedly set an August 2015 release date for the upcoming Moto X refresh but it will not be for the widely rumored 2015 version. The company's upcoming handset will be called Moto X Sports, suggesting of build, design and functionalities with an active lifestyle in mind.
Alongside this new flavor of the Moto X is the third installment of the mid-range Moto G and the leaked images of both devices, according to Phone Arena, were sourced from Chile, specifically coming from Entel, the country's largest network service provider. It appears that the leak is in line with the Motorola handsets becoming part of Entel's product offerings and the launch is said to take place in August or in the few weeks to come.
Of the leaked images, what excites more is the Moto X Sport that the report said is a variant of the Moto X 2015. The Sport edition is mostly designed by its rugged make and is expected to be tougher than the regular model. The banner features should be protection from accidental drops and bumps as well as safeguard against elements intrusion, meaning the device will boast of shock and water proofing. But Phone Arena noted that the features were not mentioned in the leaked information.
Hinted were a 5.2-inch screen profile, a 1.5GHz processing chip and a camera combo of 16MP on rear and 5MP on front. The specs provided indicate significant bumps from the Moto X flagship that was issued in 2014.
The 2015 refresh of the Moto G, on the other hand, has a slightly smaller profile, its screen stretching diagonally at 5-inch and the main engine muscling with its 1.4GHz chip in quad-core configuration, which is an improvement from last year's build. The camera mix 13MP on main and 5MP on the secondary shooter.
The timing of the leak is but a few weeks shy of the reported rollout of the device, which pointed to an unboxing anytime in August. The report also suggested that unveiling of the device could happen within this July.
But the more exciting indication of the report is the likelihood that the Moto X 2015 will come out shortly after the mentioned August unpacking. The Motorola flagship has attracted many Android fans for its decent package of handset features that matter with a relatively friendly tag price. Users also appreciate that the Moto X is designed for nearly unlimited customization options.
However, the real attraction of the Moto X brand is its nearly pure Android rendition, which is quite close to the Nexus flagship devices. The same is expected of the Moto X 2015 release date that is pegged to coincide with this year's edition of the September IFA trade show in Berlin.
