The Google Nexus 2015 release date could happen soon as Android M is reportedly ready to update compatible devices before the end of September. And recipients of the new mobile operating system will likely include old Nexus devices, a new report said.
The Nexus 4 that LG made in 2012, the Nexus 7 2012 build from Asus and the Samsung-assembled Nexus 10 could still get the upcoming Android sweet from Google, according to Venture Capital Post. A blog post from Little Green Dude is claiming that Android M is actually coded to update the mentioned Nexus legacy models, the report added.
The new development runs in counter with an earlier declaration by Google that starting with the soon to come Android build, software updates to devices two years and up will be withheld. It appears that the policy also covers Nexus devices, meaning the Nexus 4, 7 and 10 will not get Android M when it comes out.
But with the discovery made by Little Green Dude, it seems apparent that Google is making exception, at least for its hardware line up. Old Nexus owners are then given hope that they'll get a taste of Android M, which Google said will eventually bump off Lollipop and all the other previous Android editions starting September this year.
Why the change of heart by Google? One possibility is that the tech giant aims to unify the notoriously fragmented Android world into a single platform and its best hope of achieving that is through Android M.
If indeed the task at hand is to keep everything in order in time for Android M's arrival then it is likely that Google is preparing for something bigger afterwards - quickly coming to mind is the next Nexus unboxing. Or if rumors will prove correct, Android fans can expect two servings this time around - a regular-size build and a phablet model.
The Nexus flagships this 2015, report said, will come from LG, which is in charge for the edition codenamed Bullhead, and Huawei, which is picking up the Angler version. LG's take has a 5.2-inch screen while that of Huawei's will sport a 5.7-inch display.
And there is a chance that Android M will share the same release date schedule set by Google for the Nexus 2015 handsets. This event could happen as early as September, likely in the last few days of the month.
