Google has come up with an Ethernet adapter for Chromecast in the bid to offer a hassle-free streaming experience. Chromecasts, which are HDMI based media players, plug into the HDTV sets and stream content using WiFi connections.
Also, Chromecast allows the user to copy the Google Chrome web browser to your TV sets by connecting via display panels of some of the Android devices or through a personal computer. But now, with the help of the Ethernet adapters, Google intends to eliminate the possibility of unreliable WiFi connectivity while streaming videos, reports Forbes.
The Ethernet adapter has a USB cord, wall connection for power supply, and a 10/100 port for an Ethernet cable. The Ethernet cord needs to be connected to the adapter port, and then attach the USB cable into the Chromecast port.
The Google Ethernet adapter will work if there is a WiFi router located close to your TV and that has an Ethernet port. The adapter can also be handy in places where there is no WiFi, but there are Ethernet cables, such as, hotel or conference rooms.
According to Mashable, the Google Chromecast offers a WiFi connection of only 2.4 GHz, and hence cannot link to 5GHz networks. However, even if it could connect to the 5GHz networks, it still would not be able to provide a reliable and speedy connection.
Ethernet adapter therefore, makes a better option over the Chromecast in terms of reliability and even the price tag which is at only $15. It is presently available only in the United States and the stocks are already sold off.
