It is said that the truth will make one free.
Award-winning singer-songwriter David Tao admitted in a press conference on July 7 that he cheated on his wife Penny Chiang and had an extramarital affair with Yang Ziqing.
Tao has been hogging the headlines these past weeks due to persistent rumors of alleged infidelity. He initially denied being unfaithful to his wife, but he now did the opposite.
“I will not try to hide from this. No matter how or why it happened, I have done wrong and I feel very sorry and ashamed,” Tao said.
After saying his apologies to his wife, in-laws, mother, family, friends and fans--the people whom he said “supported him all the way”--Tao bowed before the media.
The singer thanked his mother, Chinese opera singer Wang Furong, for her love and for “never leaving” him. His father, TV host, award-winning singer and veteran actor Tao Da-wei, died of lung cancer in Sept. 2012.
Tao likewise thanked his wife and in-laws for their forgiveness. He admitted that Penny’s parents were not only “angry” but also “very sad and disappointed.”
Penny was not with his husband during the press conference. It will be their first wedding anniversary next month.
After dating for more than a couple of years, Tao and Penny decided it’s time to take the relationship to another level. Their May-December affair led to marriage.
Tao, 45, proposed to Penny, 29, while vacationing together in Amanpulo, a luxury beach resort in Palawan, Philippines. They got married on Aug. 31, 2014.
Some of Taiwan’s biggest names in the entertainment industry joined Tao and Penny in their lavish wedding banquet at the Mandarin Oriental Taipei. In attendance were Singaporean singer-actor JJ Lin, Taiwanese singer Jam Hsiao, Chinese-American singer-actor Wang Leehom and Taiwanese singer-actor Jay Chou.
The public scandal is the biggest blow so far to the couple’s almost 11-month-old marriage.
The R&B star will be celebrating his birthday this July 11. People can’t help but wonder what would be his birthday wish.
