The launch of a console version follows the success of its PC version on Steam in September. The game is about a human girl who goes through high school life in a world run by avians. In the PS4 and Vita version, the story becomes denser and fairly darker as the dating aspect of the game fades out, reports Engadget.

But romance is still there in the form of a new character named Tohri that also appears in the forthcoming "Holiday Star" sequel. Gamers could look forward to dubious stalkers, bitter rivalries and doomsday devices, hints blogger Nigel Lowrie in Devolver Digital, also the game's publisher.

Gaming websites write that first-time players could initially be confused, although it is actually just another version of the average dating simulator. In Hatoful Boyfriend, the protagonist meets new people until one falls in love with the character. The fresh perspective comes from replacing people with birds such as pigeons, doves and quails, except for the player being the only human student at St. PigeoNation's Institute.

The game is recommended for gamers over 16, otherwise, they may get bored with Hatoful Boyfriend. After its launch in consoles, Hatoful Boyfriend's upcoming remaster of a sequel would be released in the later part of 2015 on PC, Mac, PS4 and PS Vita.

Mao Hato, which offers a possible romance option in the sequel, hints, "The remastered sequel to everyone's favorite bird dating sim Hatoful Boyfriend will come with spruced visuals and all the bells and whistles (and chirps) a bird lover could ever want," quotes Tech Times.
