It seems that we will see Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL after all as Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella confirmed that the company will still work on future smartphones, although job cuts are underway.
While Microsoft is on its goal of thinning its workforce by relieving around 8,000 or six percent of its employees mostly from the phone business, it appears that it will not prompt the tech giant in backing out from the smartphone business.
Microsoft acquired the Nokia business last year along with the absorption of some of its employees, according to The New York Times. However, several reports claimed that the smartphone made by the company has become unprofitable in comparison with Apple and Google devices.
Meanwhile, The Statesman reported that Microsoft's new CEO aim is "one unifying platform, one unifying experience" and "that to me is the clear differentiator of what Winsdows stands for". He added that Windows 10 is going to run on everything from phones to tablets to surface hubs as well as to the HoloLens, Microsoft's first fully untethered, see-through holographic computer. This subtly confirmed that Microsoft still plans to update its smartphone line.
According to iDigital Times, the Lumia 940 XL specs and features surfaced online. The document revealed that Lumia 940 XL will pack a 5.7-inch QHD touchscreen display with 2,560 x 1,440 pixel resolution. Under the hood, the smartphone will sport Qualcomm Adreno 430 paired with a 2GB RAM and 32GB of internal memory.
Microsoft will follow the trademark of Nokia in making high camera in its handsets. The Lumia 940 XL smartphone is rumored to be equipped with 20 megapixel rear camera. The smartphone will surely run with Windows 10 operating system.
