Premier League clubs Liverpool and Manchester City have agreed on a £49-million deal that would transfer rising star Raheem Sterling from Anfield to the Etihad.
Bleacher Report indicated that the 20-year-old striker is set to receive a weekly salary of £180,000 to £200,000, making him the highest-paid English football player today and the highest-paid footballer in history at his age.
Some football analysts have criticized the deemed excessive amount spent on the young and still unproven Englishman, but City is reportedly not concerned about such disapprovals as Manuel Pellegrini claims that they have a plan on how to maximize the talents of the England international.
Pellegrini also anticipates Sterling's every move on the pitch will be analyzed because of the amount of money he is going to earn but ensured that the Citizens will be ready for the increased media attention.
Last season, Ángel Di María struggled after moving from Real Madrid to Manchester United in a £59.7 million transfer the deal. The huge price had attracted more media reporting than usual, which had become a burden for the Argentinian.
However, Sterling is not going to a new country unlike what Di María had to experience being away from his home nation Argentina, then being transferred from Spain to England.
Meanwhile, the Reds' manager Brendan Rodgers clarified that there is no rift between him and his young striker, as per The Guardian.
Reports have recently emerged that Sterling's transfer was triggered because of a misunderstanding with his Liverpool coach with regards to the former's request for a pay increase. Rodgers denied the rumors saying that "there is no issue" between him and Sterling.
