TLC has finally cancelled "19 Kids & Counting" after 10 seasons following Josh Duggar's molestation scandal. In an official statement released on July 16, Thursday, the decision was said to be made both by the network and by the Duggar family.
"After thoughtful consideration, TLC and the Duggar family have decided to not move forward with '19 Kids and Counting,'" the TLC statement starts. "The show will no longer appear on the air."
According to TLC, they have consulted regularly with RAINN and Darkness to Light, two of the top victims' rights and advocacy organizations in the United States. The network learned that child sexual abuse affects many children and families across the globe as it is not an isolated issue.
In order to raise awareness and educate parents and families about child sexual abuse, TLC said they are teaming up with RAINN and Darkness to Light on a multi-platform campaign. The network will work closely with both organizations and with the Duggar family on a one-hour documentary in the first phase of the initiative.
The documentary will include Jill Duggar Dillar and Jessa Duggar Seewald along with other survivors and families affected by abuse. Slated to air later this summer, the documentary is said to be commercial free.
In addition, TLC claimed that they have been "especially concerned for the victims in this situation" along with the Duggar family, and it is their hope that the initiative will aid the people in need "learn where to turn for information and help."
Meanwhile, Josh appeared to be absent during the recent engagement party for his cousin Amy Duggar and Dillon King. A source told Perez Hilton that the Duggars are "trying to slowly ease back into favor with the public."
