Leading torrent software BitTorrent recently announced that it will roll out significant upgrade to its Application Program Interface (API). BitTorrent also announced that it has formed a partnership with Onehub.
The partnership with Onehub marks BitTorrent's first foray into the software engineering aimed for large enterprises. Onehub Sync app is the partnership's first project.
The Onehub Sync app uses the Sync engine built by BitTorrent and targets groups comprised of hundreds or thousands of users. The cloud-based service comes in with a free 14-day trial. Once the trial period expires the service will cost $29.95 per year for every three users, according to Tech Crunch.
The service can be used in desktop, web and mobile platform and provides up to 1TB of storage space. The previous version of BitTorrent Sync requires at least one computer to be connected to the Sync server in order for file-sharing to commence.
However, with Onehub Sync, the new service now provides a cloud server that acts as the first peer that provides adequate transfer speeds so users can connect to it anytime and initiate file-sharing. According to BitTorrent Sync vice president of product management Erik Pounds, Sync is great for organizations with hundreds of members or individual workgroups.
According to Tech Frag, Onehub Sync claims that its software uses bank-level encryption to protect its user's data. The service has an integrated feature that allows activity tracking in order to monitor who accessed or modified a certain file. Users also has the option to set specific sharing permissions to other users in order to control who has the rights to modify or access a file.
