While "Trainwreck" star Amy Schumer was among those who got the nod of the 2015 Primetime Emmys, fans of "Jane The Virgin" star Gina Rodriguez were surprised she was not nominated for the outstanding lead actress in a comedy role category.
For her role in The CW's hit show "Jane the Virgin," Rodriguez won a trophy on Jan. 11at the 72nd Golden Globe Awards, which was hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. The Latina actress beat "Girls" star Lena Dunham, "Nurse Jackie" star Edie Falco, "Veep" star Julia Louis-Dreyfus and "Orange Is The New Black" star Taylor Schilling.
At the 67th Primetime Emmy Awards, Falco and Louis-Dreyfus will once again compete for the outstanding lead actress in a comedy role category along with Schumer, Poehler for her role in "Parks and Recreation," "Grace and Frankie" actress Lily Tomlin and "The Comeback" actress Lisa Kudrow.
For the outstanding lead actor in a comedy role category, the nominees are "Episodes" actor Matt LeBlanc, "Shameless" actor William H. Macy, "The Last Man on Earth" Will Forte, "Black-ish" actor Anthony Anderson, "House of Lies" actor Don Cheadle, "Transparent" actor Jeffrey Tambor and "Louie" actor Louis C.K.
This makes Louis C.K., who is half Mexican and already an Emmy winner, the only Latino to be nominated in an acting category at the 2015 Primetime Emmys. Had Rodriguez been nominated and won, she would have been the third woman behind Rita Moreno and America Ferrera and the ninth Latin actor to win an Emmy, according to Fox News Latino.
Aside from starring in "Jane The Virgin," Rodriguez is also busy with her role as the face of Kipling's Summer 2015 campaign. As part of the campaign, she recently surprised students at a California college and rewarded one student with a weekend trip to San Diego, E! News reported.
