According to Variety, analysts assumed that Reed's film would top with $60 million; however, its current opening gross is close to Louise Leterrier's "The Incredible Hulk," which opened with $55 million in 2008.
Pierre Coffin's "Minions" followed "Ant-Man," placing second in the box office last weekend. It made an estimated $50 million, which is a 56.6 percent decline from what it got after its opening weekend. Starring the voices of Sandra Bullock, Jon Hamm, Michael Keaton, Allison Janney, and Steve Coogan, among others, the Illumination Entertainment film has got a worldwide gross of $626 million.
Reed's "Ant-Man" and Judd Apatow's comedy film "Trainwreck" are the newcomers among the top five films in the box office last weekend. Apatow's "Trainwreck" grossed an estimated $30 million domestically and claimed the third box office spot. "Trainrweck" stars Amy Schumer, Bill Hader, and Tilda Swinton.
Pete Docter's animation film "Inside Out" stood at the fourth spot in the box office, grossing an estimated $11.7 million last weekend, which is 34 percent less than its previous gross. Overall, Trevorrow's film has got an estimated international gross of $1.5 billion. It stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Vincent D'Onofrio, and Irrfan Khan, among others.
While Reed's film topped the box office last weekend, "Ant-Man" might not dominate the box office in the following weeks, as per Forbes. Coming to theaters on the next five weeks are "Pixels," "mission: Impossible Rogue Nation," and "Fantastic Four," among others, which can be a tough competition for Marvel's tiniest superhero film.
"Ant-Man" stars Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lily, Corey Stoll, Anthony Mackie, Michael Pena, Judy Greer, Abby Ryder Fortson, Hayley Atwell, John Slattery, Stan Lee, and Bobby Cannavale, among others.
