Peyton Reed's "Ant-Man" is showing in theaters and the director has revealed the reason why he dropped Marvel's "Fantastic Four" in 2005.
In his interview with Yahoo Movies, the director said that during that time, Fox wanted to pitch the film "much younger" than he wanted to. For Reed, who is an avid fan of the superhero team, he felt that the characters were treated as B-level and their potential was underestimated. As a result, "Ride Along" filmmaker Tim Story took over in directing the film.
Story's "Fantastic Four" gained success after its release on July 8, 2005 and it was followed by its sequel "Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer" on June 15, 2007. However, the film was not as up-and-coming as the "Spider-Man" and "X-Men" films, it did not receive the same attention fans and critics gave to the other Marvel films.
Marvel's "Fantastic Four" will have its remake film and Josh Trank is set to helm the upcoming film. According to Cinema Blend, Trank's take on the new "Fantastic Four" movie still plots a surprise to both comic fans and moviegoers; however, it is assumed that its path is contrary to the unexpected direction of Story's 2005 film.
Written by Trank, Simon Kinberg, and Jeremy Slater, the upcoming "Fantastic Four" film stars Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Bell, and Toby Kebbell, among others.
Trank's "Fantastic Four" is slated to premiere on Aug. 7, 2015 while Reed's "Ant-Man" is showing in theaters. Watch the trailer here:
