Comic book author Grant Morrison recently revealed his disappointment with the portrayal of Wonder Woman's character set to appear in the highly anticipated film "Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice," directed by Zack Snyder.
In an interview with the Nerdist, the author said he understands the idea behind the film and where the director wishes to take the Amazonian goddess. However, he points out that the character's "father" William Marston would not have appreciated the violence that goes along with her persona.
Currently, writing the comic series "Wonder Woman: Earth One" Morrison told the website Marston who was a psychologist and lawyer in addition to being a comic book author, wanted the character to portray the feminine side of a super heroine in contrast to the blood curdling violence and masculinity normally featured in comics.
For the movie "Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice," the character of Wonder Woman is portrayed by Israeli actress Gal Gadot who bears a masculine look accompanied by "snarls" says Morrison in his interview.
The comic book author explained that Marston's character was based on "a doctor, a healer, a scientist."
According to Toronto Sun, the comic book author says he fears the new Wonder Woman will send the wrong message to young girls that femininity can be considered as a weakness.
The author was quoted by the Canadian publication as saying girl shy away from being girls unless their character has strength, power and force. While characteristics such as tenderness, good-nature and peace loving usually associated with femininity are despised and considered as being weak.
The author's remedy he claims humorously according to the publication is to create a female super heroine who has the powers of Superman and the traits and allure of a good-natured, beautiful woman.
